This 2001 Porsche Boxster 2.7 is a remarkably low mileage and collector-quality example of an engaging and authentic mid-engined sports car. It is powered by a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine producing 217bhp, driven through the rear wheels via a slick five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows a mere 18,865 miles from new, which is fully warranted.
2004 PORSCHE BOXSTER 2.7. 19' Alloy Wheel. If you fail to do this the car will not necessarily be held for you. By now you now understand this item is going to require further money to be spent on it due to its age, mileage and price paid.
- The entry level engine, however, now has a 2.9-litre capacity and a 255bhp power output, an increase of 10bhp over the old 2.7-litre unit. It will get from standstill to 62mph in 5.9s. More salient is the 3.4-litre engine in the Boxster S which now has Porsche Direct Fuel Injection technology for greater efficiency and power.

Benefitting from the 2000 model year upgrades, with the smoother fly-by-wire throttle and improved mechanical reliability, this Boxster is a useable and exciting modern classic. Writing about the 986 model, Porsche specialist Peter Morgan says the 2.7-litre Boxster is “arguably the definitive everyday Porsche - its lively throttle response and supreme road confidence are suited to a wide range of driving abilities.”
First registered in March 2001, this car has been impeccably maintained by four previous keepers. While its first annual service was at Porsche Tonbridge, since then it has been looked after exclusively by Porsche Centre Swindon. The vendor has owned the car for the last two years and - like those before him - has driven the car sparingly, adding just 1,300 miles to the odometer.
As you would hope given the low mileage, the bodywork remains in outstanding condition. It is finished in the original factory coat of metallic Arctic Silver, which is immaculate. The only imperfections noted by the vendor are a few almost imperceptible chips in the paint on the trailing edge of the driver’s door, which are shown in the media gallery.
The black fabric hood is in great shape, with damage or discolouration, and the folding mechanism works perfectly. There is a tiny dent in the rear window plastic, which is shown in the gallery, but the window itself was renewed only two years ago and is otherwise in perfect condition. The original 17-inch silver alloy wheels are pristine, as are all of the wheel bolts.
Inside, this Boxster was specified from the factory with the electrically adjustable comfort seats, trimmed in full grey leather, along with the three-spoke Sport steering wheel. The leather is in superb order, with absolutely no damage and hardly any wear to speak of.
The grey carpeting, leather panels on the door cards and all of the interior plastics are in equally impressive condition, and all of the switchgear works as it should. The car is equipped with climate control, along with the CDR-22 audio system. At the front and rear, the luggage areas appear to be barely used, and the Porsche retains its space-saver spare wheel, as well as the factory-supplied tools.
This Boxster 2.7 boasts meticulous maintenance history, with an average of just 1,100 miles between each service. It was last seen by Porsche Swindon in November 2019 at 18,778 miles, which comprised of a standard annual service along with renewal of the brake fluid. The two services prior to this were in July 2018 at 17,907 miles and in April 2017 at 17,415 miles. A full breakdown of the service dates and mileages is included below.
The most recent MOT test was carried out on 8 November 2019 at 18,778 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. In fact, over the last nine years of annual tests covering 3,000 miles on the road, there has never been so much as one advisory flagged, which is a testament to the car’s superb condition.
Its alloy wheels are shod in a matching set of N3-rated Michelin Pilot Sport tyres that were fitted in 2016, in size 205/50 ZR17 at the front and 255/40 ZR17 at the rear. The tyres have covered fewer than 2,000 miles on the road, so remain virtually as-new with around 6mm of tread.
Accompanying the car is all of the original literature and the book pouch, including driver’s manual, stamped maintenance record and stereo user guide. The two factory-supplied keys are also present.
This Porsche Boxster 2.7 is an outstanding and original example of the car that transformed the brand’s fortunes from the 1990s onwards. It boasts remarkably low mileage from new and is unquestionably one of the most well-presented cars of its kind. While it would of course make a terrific addition to any collection of Porsche models, this genuinely engaging sports car also deserves to be driven while maintaining its unspoilt condition.

In 1996 Porsche launched a new sports car named the Boxster, powered by mid-engine 2.5 flat-six engine and new family styling details that would also feature in its bigger brother, the new 996 that followed soon after. At a stroke, Porsche had produced a benchmark sportscar by which others including some their own would be judged. The press praised the car for its fantastic handling, design, surprising practicality and price. The only real criticism was most felt it could handle a bit more power and this was addressed for the 2000 model year with a revised 2.7-litre engine and new performance variant, the Boxster S.
Today it’s hard to believe that the first 986 variants have reached their 25th birthday and are just on the cusp of becoming a modern classic, still offering an inspiring driving experience, with a refreshing simplicity that has long left the modern car.
Scour the classifieds, and initially, they seem incredibly cheap too, however, the term caveat emptor “let the buyer beware.” certainly applies, as these cheaper cars have almost certainly been maintained on a budget, and the Boxster is still a genuine Porsche when it comes to its upkeep and maintenance.
We have recently purchased this quite remarkable example which has been annually maintained by a Porsche main agent since new and with just three former keepers, two of them long term and 37,000 miles from new. The last owner was a Porsche Club member who never used it in the rain and unlike most, because it has always been maintained correctly regardless of cost, it presents as well underneath as it does inside and out.
Supplied new by Rivervale Porsche on 20.05.2000, in special order rainforest green metallic with full black leather interior, it is supplied with a Porsche certificate of authenticity to confirm its factory specification together with a fully stamped service book showing main dealer services for every one of its 20 years and every service invoice / MOT from new.
In 2014 it received a new mohair roof with glass rear window, 18” genuine Carrera alloys and facelift light upgrade with all new parts.
Wondershare data recovery 3 7 1. This Boxster belies its 20 years by feeling, looking and driving more it may have done when it was just 2 years old and we feel a genuine time warp that will not only be a joy to own but a sound investment too.
